Rome, the Colosseum

An interesting visit to the area of the Imperial Forum, that contains monuments from the Roman era, such as the Colosseum, the Arches of Tito and Constantine, the Massenzio Basilica, and the modern, such as the Piazza Venezia.

Programme

The guided visit starts from the Piazza dell'Esquilino and goes to Piazza Venezia, at the centre of which rises the Vittoriano complex, inaugurated in 1911 and dedicated to the King Vittorio Emanuele II.

Then continuing on to the Capitol Square, designed by Michelangelo Buonarroti in XVI century, who also devised the star outline on the paving and the splendid staircase called "The Ramp".

The Imperial Forum has monumental squares constructed between the I century B.C. and II century A.D. in the heart of the city of the Roman Emperors, a short distance from the Roman Forum, from the Republican era, that formed the centre of the political, military and social life of ancient Rome; we visit the Forum of Cesar (46 B.C.), the Massenzio Basilica, the Arches of Tito and Constantine and the Sacred Way.

Continuing along the street of the Imperial Forum, we reach the Colosseum, the most impressive monument of antiquity, built by the Flavia family and so also called the Flavio Amphitheatre. It could hold up to 50,000 spectators, and was used for spectacles with gladiators, ferocious animals, etc. It is one of UNESCO's world heritage sites.

The tour will finish with a visit to the Church of St. Peter in Chains that is home to the famous statue of Moses, a masterpiece by Michelangelo.

Return to the hotel or the nearby area.

Duration: around 3 hours and half. The tour includes: a guide, transport, earphones + entrance fees.

Take Note: access to the churches is not allowed in shorts, miniskirts and uncovered shoulders.
